Every month, our support team fields great questions from PractiTesters that we think the whole community can benefit from. Here’s a roundup of some of the most common ones from July and August, along with the answers!
1. Can I generate a report based on a specific execution date?
Reports don’t have a built-in execution date picker, but you can get there with a filter:
Step 1 – Create the filter (in Test Sets & Runs)
-
Click the + button to create a new filter.
-
Give it a clear name (e.g., “Executed Today”).
-
Under Add filter criteria, click + AND query, then:
-
Select Last Run from the field dropdown
-
Set a specific date range (between…) or a relative range (in the last…)
-
Step 2 – Use the filter in a report Create a report (e.g., an Instance/Test Execution Tabular Summary) and select your filter from the Filter by – TestSet Filter dropdown.
2. Can one Test Set be assigned to multiple users?
Yes — two common approaches:
Option 1: Assign the Test Set to a user group
- Instead of assigning the whole Set to one person, assign it to a group containing all your testers.
Option 2: Assign individual Instances to different users
-
Go to Settings → Fields, edit the Assigned To field, and activate it for Instances.
-
Open the Test Set in Instance View, select batches of instances, and use Batch Edit to set Assigned To for each batch to a specific tester.
3. Getting the “Missing steps parameters in instance” error?
That error shows up when a test with step parameters (using {{parameter}} syntax) has been added to a Test Set, but values haven’t yet been assigned to those parameters for the instance.
Here’s how to resolve it:
-
In your Test Set, tick the checkbox for the relevant test instance.
-
Click the three-dot menu on the top-right of the Instances grid, then select Parameters.
-
Enter the required values for each parameter and click Update Parameters.
Tip: Add the Parameters column to the instance grid to easily spot which instances still need values defined. Once the parameters are set, the test will run without the error.
4. Jira integration not working?
A few things worth checking:
-
Confirm the Jira project is enabled under Jira → Settings → Marketplace Apps → Manage Apps → PractiTest integration → Configure.
-
Verify required Jira permissions and that required fields are configured.
-
Jira Cloud: Fully uninstall the PractiTest plugin, then reconfigure the integration from scratch.
-
Server/Data Center: Test the connection and check the application link and webhook settings.
If the issue persists, reach out to support with the exact error message and whether you’re on Jira Cloud or Server.
