In mature QA organizations, test reusability is often positioned as a lever for efficiency and consistency. How does PractiTest enable test reusability in practice? What tangible value have teams seen when applying it across multiple projects or iterations?
Hi Nadia. this was a big positive for us in choosing an alternative tool. We have found that the key to this really is in your set up of the Tests and also filters. Having filters that allow you to find existing tests so you can review and reuse is essential. I’d recommend looking at your custom fields and how you identify tests i.e. by product, component, tool etc. We have a few variables such as County Domain, Language, Component, Module, Tool, Currency. Reviewing where we have erepetable funcitonlaity in our sustems and then working out the best way to cpature this in cutsom fields which can then be used to crate flters. For example we may have tests flagged as Responsible Gambling meaning we can create filters for this and when a change around this area comes in we can fund all the eixtsing tests to review for reusability. Cross level filters allowing you to them dig deeper ie is this a UI test or a Tool test or service etc
We also created Test Sets for our regresson tests and again used appropriate fields and filters so these can be reused.
Running reports against new tests created is very helpeful- if you have a project cretaing a lot of new tests yet you don;t think the fnciotnlaity in scope for this project is actually new is a good idnicator that perhgaps tests are not being reused.
You can see how many runs a test has had and how many Test Sets its in to help gauge reusability also.
An improvement for us which is on the roadmap will be the global fields so being able to apply the above cross projects will help

What I took away from the discussion is that reusability is less about creating “perfect” universal tests and more about designing tests with intentional flexibility. Using the Test Library as a stable foundation, keeping tests focused on clear behavior, and relying on parameters, shared steps, and well-structured test sets allows reuse without creating tight coupling or maintenance pain.
I also liked the emphasis on context. The same test can be reused across flows, releases, or environments, but how and where it’s executed is what gives it meaning. Separating the test logic from execution context seems to be the key pattern here.
